The fish contributes about 12% of the total fish production and about 1% of GDP in Bangladesh. About 450,000 people are directly involved with the catching for livelihood; around 4-5 million people are indirectly involved with the trade. And most importantly, it is one of the unique national resources which do not require any investment at all. However, this unique resource is being smuggled abroad by some syndicates. Besides, Jatka (hilsa fish below nine inches) are also being caught for quick money. It is not only depriving our national economy but also hampering the ecological balance. With an aim to create this national awareness, this event was organized. The event had number of activities such as Recipe Contest, Rally, Children Art Contest, Publications, Seminar, etc.
