Dragon fruits cultivation changes youths’ fate

Many youths of the country are changing their fates by involving themselves in the agriculture sector especially cultivating the costly fruits dragon and making them self-reliant. According to the news agency’s district correspondents, Mizanur Rahman Mithu, a youth of Sariakandi upazila of Bogura has become successful by cultivating dragon fruits. He cultivated dragons on eight bighas of land. Mithu sold dragon fruits worth about Tk 2.5 million (25 lakh) last year. By changing his fate in this way, he has become the idol of other youths of the locality. Many of them are taking practical training from Mithu and dreaming of changing their fates. New agriculture entrepreneurs are being created regularly in Sariakandi. Mizanur Rahman recruited some unemployed youths at his farm. In 2020, she went to a local market to buy dragon fruits for his ill son but got embarrassed hearing the price of Tk 500 per kg. She then thought of cultivating the costly fruit and earn for their livelihood by selling it.

Pacific Jeans Group to invest $55m in Adamjee EPZ

Pacific Denimwear Limited, a sister concern of Pacific Jeans Group, is going to invest $54.55 million to set up a garment factory in the Adamjee Export Processing Zone. This will be Pacific Jeans Group’s ninth venture in EPZs under the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza). At present, eight enterprises of this group are operating their business in the Chattogram EPZ. Pacific Denimwear will be the first enterprise of this group to operate outside the Chattogram EPZ. The company will annually produce 12.5 million pieces of ladies’ tops, 12.5 million pieces of men’s and women’s formal and casual wear, and 3.1 million pieces of boys’ and girls’ casual wear. The company will create employment opportunities for 7,970 people.

BRAC Bank suspends international cash withdrawals via cards

BRAC Bank has halted all cash withdrawal transactions using its cards outside the country. The suspension takes effect from Sunday (24 December).  However, BRAC Bank cardholders will be able to conduct transactions for purchases through Point of Sale (POS) terminals and e-commerce services within their designated travel quota.
