Top 10 traded cos capture 42pc market turnover

The top 10 turnover leaders on Sunday captured 41.95 per cent of the turnover featured by the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). Three of the turnover leaders were also in the list of top 10 gainers. The companies are Central Pharmaceuticals, Silva Pharmaceuticals and Shasha Denims. Summit Power on Sunday featured the highest amount of turnover and grabbed 12.40 per cent of the market turnover. The premier bourse DSE posted a turnover of above Tk 5.76 billion, of which Tk 714.8 million came from transactions of Summit Power. The company’s share price closed at Tk 133.10 each with a marginal loss of 2.79 per cent or Tk 3.8. The company’s share price rose 24.15 per cent during October 2-10 last. Shasha Denims captured 3.70 per cent of the market turnover after featuring transactions of Tk 213.10 million. The company’ share price rose 9.91 per cent or Tk 6.6 to close at Tk 73.20 each on Sunday. United Power Generation and Distribution Company featured a turnover of Tk 188.80 million, which was 3.27 per cent of the turnover featured by the DSE. The company’s share trading on Sunday closed at Tk 349.70 each with a loss of 2.43 per cent or Tk 8.60. Its share price jumped to Tk 368.10 on October 9 from Tk 322.50 on October 2. Of other turnover leaders, Nurani Dyeing featured a turnover of Tk 144.60 million, followed by VFS Thread Dyeing Tk 136.60 million, IFAD Autos Tk 113.80 million, Silva Pharmaceuticals Tk 110 million and Central Pharmaceuticals Tk 89.2 million.

BB includes three PCBs as PFIs

Bangladesh Bank on Sunday signed a Master Facility Agreement (MFA) with three commercial banks to enlist them as Participating Financial Institution (PFI) under Investment Promotion and Financing Facility II (IPFF II), said a BB statement. Bank Asia Limited, Brac Bank Limited and Trust Bank Limited were enlisted as PFIs in this phase under IPFF II through the signing of this agreement. This is to be mentioned that USD 403.70 million equivalents to BDT 31.77 billion will be extended as long term loan to the private sector led-infrastructure projects endorsed by relevant government agencies. In the first phase the MFA was signed with eight banks and four Financial Institutions on August 7, 2018.

Denim Expo to focus on ‘simplicity’ in supply chain

A two-day ‘Bangladesh Denim Expo’ will kick off in the capital on November 07, focusing on ‘simplicity’ in the supply chain. The ninth edition of the show will take place at the International Convention City Bashundhara. A total of 62 exhibitors from across the globe will join the event which is expected to attract the highest number of visitors, especially from the international arena, according to a statement issued by the organisers on Sunday. The theme of this edition-‘Simplicity’-is aimed at promoting a much simpler and much easier definition to understand sustainability and ecology in denim. The expo will focus on how to make things simpler to understand demand of buyers, how to prepare for and negotiate them, and how the denim industry of Bangladesh can profit from more simplicity. During the two-day event, three panel discussions on ‘Simplicity from designers to consumers – the collaboration’, ‘Simplicity and standardization in the apparel industry’, and ‘Simplicity in production – innovation, technology and optimised handling of resources’

BD to take part in Shanghai expo

Bangladesh is all set to send a high-powered delegation to the first China International Import Expo (CIIE), to be held in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10, reports Xinhua. Eight Bangladeshi state agencies and enterprises including Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh (EPB), Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), BEPZA, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism will take part in the expo to showcase the country’s remarkable social developments and economic achievements.

Standard Chartered Bank signs MoU with BAT Bangladesh

British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BAT Bangladesh) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) to avail the ‘Supply Chain Finance’ programme – a financing programme for the distributors and suppliers of the bank’s corporate clients. BAT Bangladesh distributors will get financing facility on easier terms from Standard Chartered Bank for the goods purchased.

Bank Asia provides born-blind treatment support

Bank Asia is providing treatment support to the underprivileged born-blind children (0-8 years) of the country since 2005, according to a statement. Under this project, as a part of social responsibility, all the expenses for the treatment like primary health checkup, operation, medicine and accessories of born-blind infants are carried out by the bank. Bangladesh Eye Hospital is working as a partner with Bank Asia in this project. The organisation is working to revive the vision of the born-blind through a sophisticated treatment and nursing. So far, 1,164 born-blind infants from all over the country acquired their eyesight through the support. Currently, three different born-blind infants are undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Eye Hospital. Bank Asia is always committed to provide treatment support to the born-blind of the underprivileged family of the country and constantly looking for new patients every year.

Eco-friendly light trap, perching methods cut cost, ensure healthy-crops

The peasants at different areas under the district are showing their interest in cultivating T-Aman paddy using eco-friendly light trap method introduced by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) for pest management on the paddy fields. A good number of farmers in the district are achieving remarkable success in controlling pest on Aman paddy by using this method as an alternative to pesticides. Light trap is a natural pest management method of paddy that needs a lantern, charger light or electric bulb attached with a stick and a pot with detergent and kerosene mixed clear water and the pot is put under the lights to tempt the insects. Different types of pests are attracted to like fall into the water and die eventually in the homemade pesticide. Types of pest can also be identified by this method as well. This environment-friendly method of elimination of insects from croplands is commonly known as Perching method. Through this method, birds are allowed to sit on branches or sticks erected in the field 30 to 35 feet away each and to catch flying insects and consume those. The production cost of the crops and vegetables are also being dropped for using the method. As a result, the method was getting immense popular in various places of Rajshahi district.
