Dhaka Bank Limited participated in Jatio Ilish Utshab 2015 as the Lead Sponsor organized by Atish Dipankar Gobeshona Parishod. The event took place at National Public Library Compound on Friday, September 18, 2015. The event was graced by Former Secretary & Chairman of NBR and Chief Coordinator of Diabetes Association of Bangladesh Dr. Mohammad Abdul Majid as Chief Guest and Former Information Secretary Mr. Syed Margub Morshed as President. Managing Director of Dhaka Bank Limited Mr. Niaz Habib also joined the event as Special Guest. Hilsa is a popular fish in South Asia. The fish contributes about 12% of the total fish production and about 1% of GDP in Bangladesh. About 450,000 people are directly involved with the catching for livelihood; around 4-5 million people are indirectly involved with the trade. And most importantly, it is one of the unique national resources which do not require any investment at all. However, this unique resource is being smuggled abroad by some syndicates. Besides, Jatka (hilsa fish below nine inches) are also being caught for quick money. It is not only depriving our national economy but also hampering the ecological balance. With an aim to create this national awareness, this event was organized. The event had number of activities such as Recipe Contest, Rally, Children Art Contest, Publications, Seminar, etc.
