Dhaka Bank holds annual managers conference
Dhaka Bank held its annual managers conference for 2024 at a city hotel on Saturday. Abdul Hai Sarker, chairman of the Board of Directors of Dhaka Bank, inaugurated the meeting as the chief guest. Emranul Huq, managing director and CEO of Dhaka Bank, presided it over.

Agricultural product exports make a turnaround
Bangladesh’s agricultural product exports have slightly increased year-on-year during this fiscal year, marking a turnaround from a gradually drop over the past three years thanks to, according to industry insiders, restoration of supply chains and a slight improvement in the US dollar crisis. The export receipts amounted to $637 million in the past eight months, according to the export promotion bureau (EPB). In comparison, it was $615 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year of 2022-23. The product list here is comprised of tea, vegetables, tobacco, fruits, spices, dry food, oil seeds, betel leaves, animal or vegetable fats and oils, sugar and sugar confectionery, beverages, spirits and vinegar, oil cake and others. Overall, Bangladesh exports more than 700 agricultural items, including 63 basic processed products, according to Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

Bhutan plans to set up economic zone in Kurigram
Bhutan plans to set up a special economic zone in Kurigram district in the northern region of Bangladesh. Recently, the Embassy of Bhutan in Bangladesh forwarded a formal letter to the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) seeking suitable land for an economic zone in the northern part of the country. The Madhabaram village in Kurigram sadar upazila, which is close to Bhutan’s gateway town Phuntsholing, was selected as the tentative location. Mizanur Rahman, Kurigram sadar assistant commissioner, told The Daily Star that 133.92 acres of Khas land had been handed over to Beza. There are plans to acquire another 80 acres of privately owned land. However, what type of investment will come from the Himalayan kingdom is yet to be clear.
