Bangladesh earns $55.55b in export receipts in FY23

Earnings from merchandise shipment rose 6.67 per cent year-on-year to $55.55 billion in the just-concluded fiscal year, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) today.Shipment fetched $52.08 billion in the previous financial year of 2021-22.In June of 2022-23, exports grew 2.51 per cent year-on-year to $5.03 billion.

Inflation falls slightly to 9.74% in June

The monthly inflation rate has slightly fallen to 9.74% in June, a drop of 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, according to data released on Monday by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). The country recorded an inflation rate of 9.94% in May, the highest in a decade, according to BBS data.ood inflation ‍stood at 9.73% in June, an increase from 9.24% in May, while non-food inflation hit 9.6%, down from 9.96% the previous month. In the new monetary policy effective from 1 July, the Bangladesh Bank, as part of its contractionary stance, hiked key policy rates to make loan costlier in the hope of taming runaway inflation.The repo rate, also known as the policy rate, was raised from 6% to 6.50% and an interest rate corridor has been set adding 3% to the six months’ average of treasury bill rate.

Chattogram Customs House earns record Tk61,465cr revenue in FY23

Chattogram Customs House collected a record revenue of Tk61,464.72 crore in FY23, riding on higher imports in the final two months of the just concluded fiscal year. This amount is 3.90% higher than that of the previous fiscal year when revenue was collected at TK59,159.83 crore. However, the collected revenue fell Tk17% short of the Tk74,206 crore target.If imports in FY23 were not affected by economic slump, the revenue would have been around Tk70,000 crore. Revenue collection at Chattogram Customs House was Tk4,781.21 crore in July, Tk5,498.48 crore in August, Tk5,105.18 crore in September, Tk4,918.65 crore in October, Tk5,479.56 crore in November, Tk4,388.05 crore in December, Tk 4,744.61 crore in January, Tk4,287.79 crore in February, Tk5,052.52 crore in March, Tk4,534.05 crore in April, Tk6,308.91 crore in May, and the highest Tk6,365.71 crore in June.
