City Bank Dhaka Bank Bangladesh Open 2009 concluded
The City Bank Dhaka Bank Bangladesh Open 2009 was held at Kurmitola Golf Club. Out of the 73 professional golfers, 52 are from India including 3 Nepalese, 2 US and 2 Australians, who competed with 21 local players in the Tk 30,00,000 professional tournament, the second of its kind held in the country after 2001. The 10 amateurs were also taking part in the meet for exposure but was not received prize money. The top 50 players was received the prize money with about Tk 5,00,000 going to the winners.
The tournament was tee-off on January 27 with the Pro-Am event while the main part was held from January 28 to 31, 2009. It is the first time that the Aircel-Professional Golf Tour of India PGTI’s is being held outside India.
In this connection a reception was held at Radisson Water Garden Hotel, Dhaka. Chief of Army Staff and President, Bangladesh Olympic Association, General Moeen U Ahmed was present on the occasion as Chief Guest. Mr. Altaf Hossain Sarker, Chairman, Dhaka Bank Limited addressed the reception. Players, Officials of Bangladesh Golf Federation, Sponsor Banks were among others present on the occasion.
The prize giving ceremony was held at Kurmitola Golf Club on January 31, 2009. Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman was present on the occasion as Chief Guest. Among others, Mr. Altaf Hossain Sarker, Chairman, Mr. Mohammad Abu Musa, Managing Director (CC), Dhaka Bank Limited were also present on the occasion.
Shahid Khan’s team clinched the Pro-Am event of the City Bank Dhaka Bank Bangladesh Open 2009 golf title. 19year old Jamal Hossain Mollah has emerged as Bangladesh’s new golfing sensation after winning the City Bank Dhaka Bank Bangladesh Open 2009 by five strokes.
