BB allows BASIS members to use co-branded credit cards
Bangladesh Bank (BB) has allowed digital marketing payments through co-branded credit cards for the BASIS member companies. Payments to Facebook, Google and other social media platforms are now being authorised by co-branded cards, according to a recent circular issued by the central bank in response to a request from the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS). Earlier, the association put forward some proposals to the BB for allowing such payment method to expand their businesses, said a BASIS statement. The meetings were informed that there are about 1,000 agencies – big and small – involved in the growing digital marketing industry. Besides, there are numerous freelancers, production houses, content creators and many others involved in the sector. The industry employs an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 people, who are constantly creating numerous digital content and business services, and delivering various digital media services.

Agent banking growing fast in Bangladesh
Agent banking is expanding rapidly across the country with the amount of deposits by the accountholders exceeded Tk 52 billion in the last financial year, according to a Bangladesh Bank (BB) data. About 82 per cent of total customers in agent banking service are rural people and among them, 60 per cent are female, they added. According to a Bangladesh Bank data, total deposits by agent banking accountholders stood at Tk 5,284.46 crore at the end of June of fiscal year 2018-2019 (FY ’19) from Tk 2,012.77 crore in the previous fiscal year.

About 0.4m Bangladeshis working in Qatar
Currently about 0.4 million (400,000) Bangladeshi workers are working in Qatar, playing an important role in the economic development of the mineral-rich Gulf country and Bangladesh. Qatar’s Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem made the comment after a bilateral meeting with State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel in Doha, capital of Qatar, reports UNB.
